Showcase Sunday (40): "I Love HarperTeen" Edition

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicki at Books, Biscuits, and Tea, where we showcase what books we've gotten over the course of the week, whether it be bought, received from the library, from the publishers for review, etc.

For Review:

Bought:

How to Love: I am so excited to start this one. I've been in the mood for contemporaries lately, and this one has gotten rave reviews from friends of mine so far, and from the synopsis, I'm pretty sure it focuses on a mother/daughter relationship, so I'm looking forward to hopefully having my heart stomped on while reading this book. Thanks, Balzer + Bray!

The Beginning of Everything: This is another contemporary I got this week that has gotten rave reviews from friends of mine! I'm not exactly sure what it's about, but Christina says it's witty, and the author told me it has a lot of puns, and the original title (Severed Heads, Broken Hearts) intrigues me, so I think I'll love this one quite a bit. Thanks, Katherine Tegen Books!

Being Sloane Jacobs: I wouldn't normally be interested in this one, but I've heard great things about Lauren Morill's Meant to Be, so I hope this one is as fun as I've heard that one is. Thanks, Delacorte!

Once We Were: !!!!! I loved What's Left of Me, so words can't describe how excited I am for this one. I'm thinking of reading it while I'm waiting at the airport/on the plane on Tuesday. Can't wait! Thanks, HarperCollins!

The Burning Sky: I honestly don't know much about this one, but I've heard really good things, and I think it's about an elixir that goes wrong and screws everything up (though I could be completely wrong and am too lazy to actually check for myself and read the synopsis), so I look forward to it. Fantasy isn't usually my genre, but I've read some really good ones this year. Here's to hoping The Burning Sky joins those good ones. Thanks, Balzer + Bray!

Frostbite: I wasn't the hugest fan of Vampire Academy, but I fully intend to continue the series, and have heard that it gets much better after the second book, so I hope I like this one more than I did the first!

What did you get this week? Let me know in the comments, or leave a link to your haul, and I'll check it out as soon as possible!

  1. I received a copy of How to Love too, I tried to hold off on requesting a copy, but I was seeing it practically everywhere that I couldn't resist. Also I'm so jealous of your copy of Being Sloane Jacobs! I look forward to seeing how you get on with it and the rest of your books too! :)

  4. Oh my gosh, I'm so jealous you got The Burning Sky! I've seen so many rave reviews, and THAT COVER. THAT COVER IS GORGEOUS. Hope you like, Blythe! Also, Once We Were. Nothing can express how much I want that book. I seriously hope it lives up to your expectations, because I loved What's Left of Me, too. Lovely haul, and enjoy all your wonderful new books! *stars wistfully at your haul*

    1. RIGHT? They changed the cover, and the other one was absolutely stunning as well. I hope to get to it soon! And gah, I am so excited to get to Once We Were. I've heard that it's amazing.

  5. I love Harper Teen! I haven't requested any physical ARCs from them, but they're SO generous on the egalley front. I can't wait to see what you think of The Beginning of Everything. I'm so disappointed they changed the title, but I guess I can understand why.

    1. You and me, both! I think I've requested physical ARCs from them a couple of times and never got the ARC, but they definitely are awesome with their egalleys. And I really liked the original title, but I can see why they changed it, too. I guess the new title appeals more to a larger audience.

  7. ONCE WE WERE! Yes, HarperTeen was very awesome this week. Oh my gosh, you have to read this ASAP because I still have NO ONE to discuss my neverending feels with and I need a feels partner. I hope Frostbite will be a little more fun than Vampire Academy was. Adrian knows how to spice up a book.

My gut says the publisher possibly hopes Robyn Schneider will be a female John Green. I may have seen advertising along those lines or someone else said it, but I've got that feeling. That kind of makes me way to stay away from it, to be honest. (I wish I could do something about those hipster moments.)

I'm 100% whatever on Being Sloane Jacobs, How to Love, and The Burning Sky (though my gut is warning me about the latter for some reason). Sad but true. :P

    1. I'm so excited to start it! Eeee! Will let you know when I start/finish it, whenever that will be. And I've heard great things about Adrian, so I hope I love him. I didn't feel anything towards Dimitri, really.

And I thiiiiink Christina said something about Robyn Schneider being like John Green? I asked her if she thought I'd like it and I'm pretty sure she said it's like John Green's novels, but I haven't read any John Green novels.

  9. Ooh I'm very curious about Being Sloane Jacobs! I wasn't in love with Meant to Be, but I did like it quite a bit overall. I hope you enjoy it. Once We Were was one I was really looking forward to as well, but I'm reading it at the moment and it's been a bit of a letdown so far. :( I hope you have better luck with it. The Burning Sky has been getting some great ratings already! I love fantasy so it sounds like the perfect book for me.

Really great haul, Blythe! I hope you enjoy all your new books. :)

  10. I really liked The Beginning of Everything! It's funny and witty and heartfelt. And, yes, I miss the old title. Severed Heads, Broken Hearts is hilarious and irreverent.
