Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine where we post upcoming releases we're highly anticipating. My pre-publication selection for this week's Waiting on Wednesday is The 100 by Kass Morgan.
The 100
Kass Morgan
Series: The Hundred, #1
Release Date: September 3rd, 2013
Publisher: Little, Brown BFYR
Waited on by: Blythe
In the future, humans live in city-like spaceships orbiting far above Earth's toxic atmosphere. No one knows when, or even if, the long-abandoned planet will be habitable again. But faced with dwindling resources and a growing populace, government leaders know they must reclaim their homeland... before it's too late.
Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents are being sent on a high-stakes mission to recolonize Earth. After a brutal crash landing, the teens arrive on a savagely beautiful planet they've only seen from space. Confronting the dangers of this rugged new world, they struggle to form a tentative community. But they're haunted by their past and uncertain about the future. To survive, they must learn to trust - and even love - again.
Aside from the cover that makes me want to fall asleep just by looking at it, and the title that makes me twitch (why couldn't it have been The Hundred? Neither The 100 nor The Hundred are very good titles, in my opinion, but why have the number '100' in the title?), this really does sound like it could be awesome and fun. It also sounds a lot like After Earth, which I was interested in seeing until I found out M. Night Shyamalan directed it, but I digress. Also, this is apparently going to be a TV show on the CW at some point, which also really intrigues me. Here's to hoping this is as awesome as it has the potential to be!
I just heard about this the other day and it sounds interesting. But for some reason, the fact that it was picked up for a TV show before the book even comes out kind of scares me. I dunno. I'm going to wait on some reviews before I decide to add it to my TBR list or not. Nice pick!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read this! I heard about the TV show first, and then I found out it was going to be a book first. The premise sounds awesome, and I think I'll really like this. Great pick :)
ReplyDeleteMy WoW
I also dislike when there are numbers in titles, unless it's a number that would be hard to write out, like one requiring a dash. Mostly because they're hard to search for, because you don't know if it's Hundred or 100, and often the alternate isn't in the system. *shakes fist* This should be standardized!
ReplyDeleteAnd also the series title is The Hundred, why can't the book title be? GAH.
DeleteSounds interesting, I know nothing about it other than the summary so excited to start seeing some ratings for it. Great selection.
ReplyDeleteGreat WoW pick! This was my WoW pick last week I believe. I can't wait to see the CW show because the trailer was pretty good!
ReplyDelete-Scott Reads It!
You're right about the cover and the title (ARGH) but OMG I WANTS THIS. I've got high hopes for the CW series, too!
ReplyDeleteThis one sounds like a lot of fun! I like stuff like this so, we shall have to see...
ReplyDeleteMy WoW
Hadn't heard of this one before, but I'm half interested, half annoyed. That title is just not a good idea. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for After Earth, they did a reeeaaaally good job of hiding who directed that for a long time. I was mildly interested (Jaden Smith - booo) but when I found that out? Hell to the no.
This seems to be a lot of people's picks today! Then again, it sounds really, really, REALLY good, so I can't blame any of you. Though yeah, that cover could use a bit of work. Great pick, Blythe!
ReplyDeleteI think the synopsis is a bit similar to a book that was published in 2012.Nevertheless the story sounds like something I would read! Great pick!
ReplyDeleteHere's my Waiting on Wednesday post.
Very intriguing! Cover is kinda weird and I don't care for the cover but at least the synopsis makes it sound interesting. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteMy WoW Pick!
I really adore the cover for this. It has snippets of scenes or something and each time I see it, I spot something new. I cannot wait for this one!
ReplyDeleteGreat choice, Blythe! <33
This one sounds awesome!! I really want to read this one too!! Fab pick!!
ReplyDeleteI've seen this on a couple of WOWs and I have to agree: it sounds great! Another blogger put the CW trailer up and it looks pretty good. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteHere's my WOW.
I so excited for this one, too. It looks awesome. I'm intrigued by a book that has inspired a show before it's even been released. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteWondering about this being a TV show...sounds like there are a lot of characters to explore at the least; we'll see how it all turns out!
