The only book I'll most likely be buying this week is Falling Kingdoms, as I've heard amazing things and it sounds really good! I'm not normally a fan of fantasy, but this one has gotten glowing reviews from so many friends of mine that I can't help but check it out and see for myself if I'll like it. That's it for me this week, though, but tell me which releases, if any, you're getting this week in the comments, and as always, happy reading!

Another ARCless week, and, once again, I'm satisfied with it! I'm really excited to get to both The Farm (though I won't lie, I'm disappointed that it's not actually about killer ticks), and The Body Finder, even if The Body Finder got vastly different reactions from many friends of mine (some loved it, some loathed it. I'm scared to see where I'll fall, honestly, but I liked Derting's The Pledge, so I'll keep an open mind).

In the darkest places, even love is deadly.
Sixteen-year-old Juliet Moreau has built a life for herself in London—working as a maid, attending church on Sundays, and trying not to think about the scandal that ruined her life. After all, no one ever proved the rumors about her father's gruesome experiments. But when she learns he is alive and continuing his work on a remote tropical island, she is determined to find out if the accusations are true.
Accompanied by her father's handsome young assistant, Montgomery, and an enigmatic castaway, Edward—both of whom she is deeply drawn to—Juliet travels to the island, only to discover the depths of her father's madness: He has experimented on animals so that they resemble, speak, and behave as humans. And worse, one of the creatures has turned violent and is killing the island's inhabitants. Torn between horror and scientific curiosity, Juliet knows she must end her father's dangerous experiments and escape her jungle prison before it's too late. Yet as the island falls into chaos, she discovers the extent of her father's genius—and madness—in her own blood.
Inspired by H. G. Wells's classic The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Madman's Daughter is a dark and breathless Gothic thriller about the secrets we'll do anything to know and the truths we'll go to any lengths to protect.
I can't wait to read this one! It sounds so deliciously creepy and dark and rich in historic detail! I really hope it ends up being creepy, though, because it's never fun for me when I expect something to be creepy and the biggest scare ends up being the literary equivalent of a young child in a sheet screaming "BOO!" at you on Halloween.

Review: The Lost Code by Kevin Emerson
The Lost Code
Kevin Emerson
Series: The Atlanteans, #1
Release Date: May 22nd, 2012
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Number of Pages: 435
Source: Bought
Rating: 1 star

I knew upon reading the first two, painful pages of The Lost Code that it would not end up being a book that I'd like, but me, being the horribly optimistic and good-hearted person that I am (laugh and I'll make you read this book) trudged on hoping that The Lost Code would garner at the very least two stars from me.
And this is what I get for being optimistic and good-hearted. *sigh* I should just stop being an overall amazing person. (Again, anyone laughs and I'll find you.)
I've read my fair share of awful books this year; from the 'brb-clawing-my-eyes-out' Evermore, to the 'I-WANT-TO-STAB-EVERYONE' Defiance, and now to the 'this-book-is-drunk' (you'll see what I mean) The Lost Code. But the thing about The Lost Code is, I think it might be even more frustrating than the former two novels, and the first quarter or so of it is most definitely one of the worst beginnings of a novel I've ever read in my lifetime, if not the worst. And unfortunately, it doesn't get much better from there. Where The Lost Code had some shred of promise, it was unfortunately bogged down by cringe-worthy characterization and romance, mediocre to down-right bad writing, nonsensical plotting and world-building, and pacing similar to me trying to jog (spoiler alert: not very fast).

In the year 2086, Camp Eden promises summer “the way things used to be,” back before the oceans rose, the sun became a daily enemy, and modern civilization sank into chaos. Located inside the EdenWest BioDome, the camp is an oasis of pine trees, cool water, and rustic charm.
But all at Camp Eden is not what it seems.
No one will know this better than 15-year-old Owen Parker. A strange underwater vision, even stranger wounds on Owen’s neck, and a cryptic warning from the enchanting lifeguard Lilly hint at a mystery that will take Owen deep beneath Lake Eden and even deeper into the past. What he discovers could give him the chance to save the tattered planet. But first, Owen will have to escape Camp Eden alive…
This review contains minor spoilers for The Lost Code.

I think it's time I become Batman. Er... Batwoman. (But Batman sounds better... This'll take some heavy contemplation.)

Book two in the heart-stopping new series by Melissa West. The follow-up to the acclaimed Gravity, Hover is another thrilling dystopian romance and is perfect for fans of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, Veronica Roth's Divergent, and Marie Lu's Legend.I don't know about you, but I absolutely love the covers for this series! I love how different they are from most other covers in YA, and the space background is just so cool and unique. I think I might like the cover for Hover even more than the cover for Gravity! What do you think?

Really glad I didn't get many ARCs or bought books this week because I really need to catch up on ARCs this month. But I am really looking forward to reading Indigo Awakening! It sounds really good, and since the release date is super soon, I'll probably be starting it after Taken, which I'm reading now. And as for The Lost Code... Ugh. Get away from me. My review of that will be on the blog tomorrow, but in short, I was not a fan. At all. Actually, I pretty much hated everything about it.
